Reverend Harriet A. Session

Harriet, the daughter of Gracie B. (Simmons) Allen and the late Abraham B. Allen, Jr. and eldest daughter of five siblings (one brother and four sisters).

She’s a graduate of Martha Schofield High School, Aiken, SC; and South Carolina Area Trade School, Denmark, SC.  Upon graduation she was employed as a secretary, at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC. Upon relocating to NJ in April 1970, she was employed at New Jersey Bell, and in March 1973 the Department of Veterans Affairs, Newark Regional Office.  She attended Union County College, Union, NJ, obtaining a certificate in Real Estate. And on April 2, 2004, Harriet concluded a dedicated 30 year career with The Department of Veterans Affairs.                                                             

In June of 1973, she united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Reverend William J. Harris.  She served as an usher and program chair for women’s day and ushers; also served as chair of several pastoral anniversary banquets.  In February 1997, she was appointed to serve as a deaconess. 

Subsequently, Rev. Session and her spouse, Robert, became members of Imani Baptist Church of Christ, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Moses A. Knott, Jr., as well as NIA Fellowship Baptist Church also under Reverend Knott.    

Harriet studies includes Eastern Bible Institute obtaining, a certificate in “General Bible”, and New York Theological Seminary’s 2 year certificate program.  Under the leadership of Rev. Knott, on October 13, 2002, she delivered her initial sermon and was licensed to “Preach God’s Gospel”.  Under the guidance of Pastor Alphonsus E. Platt on August 20, 2006, she was ordained by Nia Fellowship Baptist Church under a council led by Rev. Dr. George A. Blackwell III, Pastor of Good Neighbor Baptist Church, Newark, NJ and 2nd moderator of The New Hope Missionary Baptist Association.

Presently, she is an energetic Associate Minister, Sunday School Superintendent and Director of Christian Education of the Nia Fellowship Baptist Church of Orange, NJ.  Putting God first, her life revolves around her husband of 47 years (April 18, 1970), Robert Michael Session, and their children Rayshaw Michael (Nicole), Reenise Michelle, and precious grandchildren Keiana Reenise, Kamron Michael and Kalieb Emmanuel.

The Master has truly ordered her steps; she maintains her called duty to pray for others, and continuing her studies, preaching and sharing God’s Word to show herself approved by the Master.  She goes forth in confidence and good cheer; confessing and truly believing that “The Lord is her shepherd” Psalm 23:1 -6.
